OUR MANIFESTO + PLEDGE TO SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is a word of broad meaning and interpretation. In design, sustainability aims to reduce the negative impact it has on people and the environment. It seeks to reduce the use of non-renewable resources and to find a way of minimizing waste. We often hear about the use of natural and up & recycled materials in the design sphere. But does this alone make the difference?
The main focus of our business lies in designing and manufacturing products to last. Longevity is the red thread throughout all our designs. The hospitality & commercial industries used to create a huge amount of design waste due to the fact that they always wanted a fresh look, new interiors & exteriors, and continuous updates on trends and technology. This mentality is shifting and we as Studio Lloyd are taking full advantage of this movement. We design products that do not need to be exchanged every 5 years. Our work is functional art made to stay.
For all our products, we use Solid Braid Multifilament Polypropylene (MFP) rope. The rope is made of a blend of polypropylene and nylon, it is soft to the touch and flexible, floats in water and is resistant to rot, mildew, and UV light. That is why MFP is one of our favourite and most used materials, especially for our light sculptures. Working with such a strong material ensures high-quality products for indoor and outdoor use as it survives in any climate (desert, tropical, oceanic). Nothing ever goes to waste as we will always find a way to include it in a new design.
Sustainability for us lies in the longevity of our products.
